The Girls

In May we were the proud owners of two old ladies, Sassy (15) and Rosie (14). They were the sweetest Boston Terriers. By June 15, we were dogless. It is so sad.

Sweet Sassy May had been fading for several months, she slept all the time and had several episodes, either heart issues or seizures, we weren't sure. But she was always right beside us when we were home. She went just like we all would like to, fell asleep and didn't wake up.

Rosebud was a clown, so funny, such a great sense of humor. She had a medical issue that didn't slow her down one bit until the end. One moment she was fine, the next she wasn't.

They were travellers, we took them in the motorhome on several trips to California, they went to Yellowstone, the beach, and everywhere we went in the RV. They loved to ride on the dashboard where they had a view of the road.

We will miss them both so much.

It was a beautiful day on the lake. Winter is around the corner, but that didn't stop the kayaker.

Poor Sassy

The girls got into a fight last Friday and we didn't provide the proper first aid to poor Sassy's leg, Rosie's usually biting spot. By Monday, it was quite swollen and required a trip to the vet. She was given antibiotic pills and shots and the vet said to put hot packs on it so it would drain (yuk!) Sassy has a heart murmur and the doctor felt uncomfortable anesthetizing her for surgery. Well, no sooner did we put on the hot pack than a bunch of icky fluid drained out and a huge crater opened. A call to the vet told us to leave it alone, they would look at it again on Thursday. In the meantime, the swelling went down and the redness went away, but the gaping hole in Sassy's leg remained. Back to the vet on Thursday and Friday and Saturday. Poor girl has to have it bandaged every day to every 2 days until it heals.

Kahneeta Weekend

We took the doggies to Kahneeta for the weekend.

We took a look inside the tepees that are for rent. There's a firepit and picnic table in each tepee. One would definitely need an airbed, though. Who wants to sleep on cement?

There was no cell phone service in Kahneeta so we either had to hike uphill about a mile or drive about 5 miles. Realized this after the front desk told us we'd have to drive all the way either to Warm Springs or Madras. No... just out of the hole.

Empty Nesting

Since Joel's been away at school we've had quite the time. Spent a hot lazy afternoon at Cook Park on the Tualatin River. The next day, wanting to explore kayaking lessons, went to Hayden Island and ended up having a great lunch at a floating restaurant. Felt like vacation. Of course, we went golfing, too.

Finally, last weekend, we went to the Pacific Shores RV Resort. Definitely a step above your average RV park. The weather was awesome and we actually saw WHALES!! On Saturday, we drove over to Depoe Bay and Boiler Bay and saw an abundance of whales, some very close to shore and others, aways out in the ocean, but close enough that we could see them breach and blow. We figured we saw at least 10 different whales. No such luck on Sunday. But we did have lunch at our favorite, Tidal Raves.

Whale Watching (Not!)

Went to Depoe Bay to see gray whales migrating north. Sounded like a great idea since this is Whale Watch Week. There were no whales to be found, but we did have a great lunch at Tidal Raves on the north end of town. Fabulous Fish n' Chips, chowder and salad, topped off with Key Lime Pie, and Bread Pudding.

The view was fantastic, overlooking the ocean. Again...no whales. After lunch, drove north to Boiler Bay and took the girls for a little walk. It was soooo cold and windy.
